Jesus last words to us on the cross were about forgiveness.
Bob and I finished our mission in North Hollywood, California and did it in spectacular manner. Both of us preached on the final night. Bob spent time focusing on Sin in our world, how we deal with it and the admission of our sinfulness. I finished the homily with the follow up to sinfulness…….FORGIVENESS.
Jesus last words to us on the cross were about forgiveness. He knew the importance, the difficulty and necessity of it. We look at forgiveness in three ways. Forgiveness from God for our sins, forgiveness of self and the most challenging, forgiveness of each other.
Many times in our lives we get hurt, people do or say things that really hurt deeply and seemingly we cannot get over the hurt until we forgive. Of course, to forgive is not to forget…You can’t forget trauma. Forgiveness is an act of love, unconditional love…No apology is needed…But even when apology is received, it is still difficult until an act of love, focusing on the other and not self is made. As soon as that happens, there is no revenge, no continuing to bring it up to the one who hurt us, but only to love as Jesus Loves unconditionally. Refusal to forgive may be worse than the hurt caused by the other.
Prayers for you at this time.
