Fr. Michael Mulhearn is a Roman Catholic priest of the Congregation of the Mission of St. Vincent DePaul. Born in Independence, Missouri, he began his priesthood in 1968 in Chicago.
Academically Fr. Mulhearn has a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Philosophy. He also has two Masters degrees–an M.A. in Counseling, and an Master of Divinity in Theology. He has a Specialist degree (Ed.S.) in Counselor Education. Fr. Mike also holds a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Psychology, specializing in problems of adolescence. Fr Mulhearn is a licensed and board-certified sexual therapist and educator. He is a diplomat and clinical supervisor of the American Board of Sexology as well as a clinical fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. He is certified by the American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists (A.A.S.E.C.T.) and a clinical member of The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (A.A.M.F.T.). Fr. Mulhearn is also certified to practice parent /child and divorce mediation by the The Academy of Family Mediators. In 1998 Father Mulhearn was board-certified by the National Board of Forensic Professionals to practice Forensic Psychology and profiling. Most recently, in 1999, he was certified by The National Association of Investigative Specialists as a private investigator in the forensic sciences. In 2002, he was board certified by the same organization as an expert in Psychological Profiling. In 1999 he was made a Diplomat of the American Psychotherapy Association, and in 2007 was named a Fellow of the American Psychotherapy Association. He is a licensed Mental Health Practitioner in the states of Kansas and Missouri.
Fr. Michael Mulhearn, a nationally known speaker and published author, has hosted his own radio talk show in Illinois, conducted and preached parish missions and speaks regularly at youth, professional and parents’ organizations. He is also a frequent speaker at elementary, high school and college assemblies. He is an accomplished pop and blues pianist, playing publicly whenever time and opportunity permit. He is also a pilot. Father Mulhearn is currently assigned to the Vincentian Parish Mission Center in Independence, Missouri.
