Does He Know Me?
I’m still thinking about the message from the Gospel on Sunday where Jesus challenged his followers to be someone that God would recognize and know. Reminds me of Don who told the prison chaplain that he was in the joint because of mistaken identity. He said he didn’t know the guy was a cop! But there is a mistaken identity in the feast day today. We celebrate the feast of one of the Apostles, St. Bartholomew. And he is known as Bartholomew in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. But in the Gospel of John, as we heard today, he is known as Nathanael.
Jesus recognized him as one of the finest Apostles because he was so honest in his following the Lord. Bartholomew (Nathanael) went as a Missionary to Armenia and India after the Ascension of the Lord. He is known as the founder of the Church in Armenia and was martyred for his faith in India. One thing for sure, he was not mistaken by Jesus or His God. His God easily recognized and knew him. My prayers today are for us to be as lucky.
