What Caterpillars call the end, God calls a Butterfly
During a recent retreat I conducted with a group of Sisters, One mentioned to me that she was “retired.” I then asked her if she got new tires for her car. Or if she was tired again. She laughed and I proceeded to tell her that the word doesn’t really mean a lot to God.
We can’t retire from being God’s angels of mercy. We can’t retire from being God’s ministers of praise when we offer our prayers for others. We can’t retire from being God’s Vincent de Paul by serving the poor. We are God’s special ministers here until we join Him in the Kingdom where He has a place all prepared for us.
So while we may not have a specific job or a designated ministry, we really are never “retired.” God never stops needing us to fulfill and proclaim his dream that one day we will all live in harmony and love, no more hatred or indifference but only light, life, and love. Nice to be needed and by the Right Person. Thank you for never being retired.
