I read that the virtue of Joy is to reserve a place for Jesus and relax in His Presence.

There was a song that had lyrics, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love”. I don’t disagree but I think what the world also needs now is Joy, sweet Joy.

There are a lot of things that we wish were not happening. We see much pain and suffering in our world, but Jesus said we are to have His Joy and have it to the fullest. So, I have been thinking about stories that bring a little laughter and joy.

Fr. Oscar Lukefahr, cm, tells the story of his trying to make an appointment for his annual physical exam. When he called the doctor’s office the secretary, as usual, asked for his name and of course his birth date. After he gave that information, she said that their records showed he was deceased. Oscar responded in his dry, humorous manner, “Well in that case, I don’t need a physical.”

I have to laugh every time I think of this. Lots of things make me laugh and I treasure those. But most important of all is to have a place for Jesus and relax in His Presence. And of course, always remember the basic reason for Joy is that God loves us so much.
