“What More Should I Do?”
Today is the feast day of St. John Eudes. John was born in Normandy, France and ordained a priest in 1625 for the Oratorians.
He founded the Order of Our Lady of Charity to provide refuge and a fresh start for women who were separated from the church.
Two years later he received permission to be separated from the Oratorians and he founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, later known as the Eudists. He is best known for promoting liturgical devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
He was also known for his preaching. He conducted over 100 parish missions focused on spiritual renewal. His ministry as confessor made him a sought after priest. He imbued his order with the desire to be simple priests, which he himself was.
Stories like John ministering to victims of the plague while he himself suffered the same, were numerous. Or ones that told of his constant looking to conduct more parish missions. As I am involved today in that same ministry, I too should ask: “What More Should I Do?”
