Fr. Bob’s Spiritual Reflection–10/2/2024
Feast Day of St. Francis
Friday is the feast of St. Francis and I think one of the most popular saints in our church. His popularity is not from the honor he deserves from the foundation of a group of nuns, or from his being known as the one who established the setting of the creche to remember the birth of Jesus. He did make sure the animals were also part of those who were there for that wonderful gift to the world. No, I believe his popularity stems from his apparent love of animals. He was known to have said that he loved preaching to them because of their paying attention.
This feast could have us respect ALL that God created. It is a challenge for us to see how we do. I know I won’t be throwing anything on the ground this Friday. I will encourage all to take really good care of their pets. God cares for all of creation and so should I. (I never thought of preaching to the birds or all the animals…What a great audience for a Mission!)
