Fr. Bob’s Spiritual Reflection–8/6/2025
“Listen to Him”
Today we celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus.
Scripture tells us that Jesus took his close friends, Peter, James and John to the mountain and was transformed before them. His appearance was almost blinding and then there appeared with Him, Moses and Elijah.
If the disciples hadn’t figured it out yet, they now knew for sure this was a Divine Person and the voice from the cloud was that of God saying, “This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.”
Wow! Moses and Elijah were there to validate what the Law and Prophets of the Old Testament predicted.
So much has been written with insights to the meaning of this dramatic event in the life of Jesus. It happened 40 days before His Passion, so He let his disciples see that victory over sin and death would happen. The world now could see this was the Son of God.
But most meaningful were God’s words….”Listen to Him.”
Let our celebration today remind us of our ‘transformation’ through Eucharist and Communion. Let it continue to call us to, “Listen to Him” and be instruments of evangelization and ministry, especially service to the poor.
