Fr. Bob’s Spiritual Reflection–5/14/2025
St. Matthias
I was going to say how after a week we would be starting to get used to the idea of a Pope from Chicago, Il. But that would be stretching it as it will take a long time, maybe forever to comprehend an American Pope. I’m so glad the Holy Spirit got the cardinals to do what they did and chose Pope Leo XIV. What a nice feast day to see one chosen by the apostles to take the place of Judas and that was St. Matthias. As legend has it, the one who lost the voting was St. Joseph. I kind of feel bad for him.
St. Matthias was a follower of Jesus from the beginning and so his election by the apostles was fitting. My thoughts are of being chosen and how grateful we all must be for being chosen by God to spread the “Good News.” Jesus was very clear about the movement of God to each of us as He said…”You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you. I’m sure Matthias wanted to show the apostles that they were right in choosing him. And we want to show God how He was right in choosing us!
