Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–4/22/2026
“How to LIGHT up a room quickly”
I was reflecting on how much we use our phones and don’t communicate in person like we did before. Because of that, we are probably in too much of a hurry to engage in a meaningful conversation.
My solution is to remember the “L’s” and I am sure we will light up the room. The “L’s” are:
LOOK, LISTEN, LAUGH and LOVE.
When I begin LOOKING, I am focusing on the needs of others. I am humble enough to place the other ahead of me. Then I am committed to LISTENING to what they have to say rather than looking for an audience to hear me. Of course, LAUGHING is a great way to ease tension and hearing a story or joke not on the internet will surely lighten the tension. Finally, the commitment to LOVING enables me to try and bring out the best in the other.
And you know when you LIGHT up that room, God smiles and knows there are more ways to pray than with a book.
Maybe that’s why Jesus said we are the LIGHT of the world.
