Fr. Bob’s Spiritual Reflection–06/16/2021
Being Humble
So let me tell you about Gerry. He just got promoted. Now a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force and he wanted to impress this airman who came into his new office. He grabbed the phone and said, “Yes general, I would be happy to let the President know your intentions.” So now airman, what’s on your mind? Nothing that important sir, I’m here to install your phone.
After listening to the scripture from Mass today, I realized how I fail sometimes looking for a response or thank you. Scripture told us not to look for a response in giving alms; not to pray so people could see; not to let people know when I’m fasting. I was reminded to do what is good for the sake of doing good…no matter who sees or responds.
Doing good for the sake of doing good is worth it in itself. I think of people like St. Vincent de Paul or Mother Teresa or my Dad (Father’s Day is coming and I remember him). I am challenged by scripture today.
