Today we celebrate the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
Today we celebrate the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. I so love the way Jesus changed both of these men. He changed Peter’s name from Simon to “Cephas” (meaning Rock) because he wanted him to be the Rock of his dream…the Church. Peter became, in reality, the first pope. And He changed Paul’s heart and it stopped him from persecuting the church and then he became one of the best preachers for the church he persecuted. The changes Jesus made in these men have made the church the beginning of His dream.
So today, I honor these men by reflecting on the significance of St. Peter’s in the Vatican. It is not only a magnificent symbol of the dream Jesus had, but it is also the focus for us of Pope Francis. My prayers are for him today. I also remember all the preachers of the word who have given us a love of God’s word.
I pray today that God change the hearts of all who have drifted away from the Church. I also pray the church today reflects the beauty of its symbol, St. Peter’s in Rome.
