Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–3/11/2026
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer.”
As I get older, I think of times past when things seemed to be simpler and more enjoyable. And sometimes it was at church.
I can remember getting confirmed at St. Patrick Parish in La Salle, IL by Bishop Cousins. I was really excited to be a soldier for Christ and given the honor and the privilege of working for Jesus.
I still remember that I was told you are making three promises to God:
- Teach by your example.
- Pray and worship.
- Have an impact on the community through your service.
I think that is what Pope Francis meant when he said, “Can I count on you?” In addition, Pope Leo wanting us to take care of the marginalized and immigrants.
I always think of the late Jesse Jackson who said, “Never look down on anyone unless you are helping them up.”
As we journey through Lent of 2026, I pray that we will always remember the challenge to be the Confirmed Catholics we promised to be and know that the world will be a better place because of this.
