The Christmas Tree
What about the tree? Why so special at this time of the year, especially the evergreen? The Christmas tree has its origin in Germany. On December 24th, people put up a “paradise” tree on what was known at the feast of Adam and Eve. The tree was decorated with wafers to symbolize the Eucharist as a sign of Redemption. Candles, symbols of Christ as light of the world, were often added. The evergreen, pine or fir became a symbol of life. Today it is nice to view it as a centerpiece, whether in a home or in a city square. We can be reminded of so many nice thoughts: Christ as light; his redeeming us and to cherish life. Here’s hoping that you are able to have a tree to provide such beauty and meaning.
