Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–1/17/2024
Always warm at God’s house
“Come to me all you who labor and I will give you rest.” It’s so cold, I can’t remember a comedian who said that we shouldn’t be worried about closing the southern border but we should shut down the northern one since that is where all the cold weather is coming from. The picture I chose for this reflection seems to indicate that come here to my house and I will give you rest. You won’t feel the cold here, only the warmth of my love. God is good! Of course, we know where the weather comes from and it isn’t the weather people on TV. They like to take credit for the great 70 degree weather but are pretty silent when it gets to 5 below zero. God calls us to His House and we will experience His love, His care and His interest in our lives.
One of the nice features of cold weather is that we appreciate more the warmth and beauty of spring, summer and fall. But it reminds me that there are times when I’m never satisfied and perhaps complain when it’s too cold, too hot, or too rainy and forget that God is really in charge and lets us have a calendar that isn’t perfect. I just need to place Him first and then won’t forget how Blessed I am. I can’t tell you to enjoy this cold weather but remind you spring, summer and fall will come.
