The Number Eight

October is ending.  Name comes from the Latin word “OCTO” which means eight.  It was the eighth month in that Roman calendar.  And now November coming from Latin word “NOVEM” which means nine for the ninth month of their calendar.  These months have special meanings for special days and events.  November for All Saints and All Souls days.  And of course, Thanksgiving.  October has Halloween, Canada’s Thanksgiving Day, Yom Kippur, Feast of St. Francis and of course we cannot forget Fr. Bob’s Birthday on October 29th.

So my reflection is on the number eight.  St. Vincent de Paul founded the Ladies of Charity in 1617,  The Vincentian fathers and brothers in 1625 and the Daughters of Charity in 1633.  Three great historical groups all founded eight years apart…WHY 8?  No one knows but I think if you take the number eight and place it on its side you have the symbol of infinity.  I guess, Vincent wanted us to go on forever.

October and November!  Go celebrate anywhere, anytime.  Find a reason or an occasion to do so.  If you can’t find a reason, then just go celebrate anyway.  God Bless!
