We are in the middle of Holy week and tomorrow, Holy Thursday we begin the great events in the life of Jesus. It was on that day that Jesus had His last meal with His friends, the twelve Apostles. It was at that meal, the Last Supper that He established the priesthood, the Eucharist and the call to service when He washed the feet of the Apostles. I remember a little girl in Olmitz, KS at her first communion got up in church and told the parishioners that Jesus said at the Last Supper, “This is my body, this is my blood” and He doesn’t lie. The Eucharist is the heart of our faith.
On Good Friday, we recall the horrible death Jesus endured for us. He took that awful walk to his death so that we could enter heaven. We are so humbled and thankful.
Then on Easter, we have the victory Christ won. I remember many, many years ago in Perryville, MO, Fr. Jeremiah Lehane, C.M. had Easter mass in the shrine of the Miraculous Medal. He went to the ambo for his homily, had a long dramatic pause, looked up and said, “Well the joke is on the devil” and turned around and ended his homily. Have a great week and hope it is special for you!
