The Other Brother
Tomorrow is the feast day of the brother who didn’t get the ink like his brother and I wanted to give him some press. Tomorrow we remember Andrew the Apostle. His brother Peter got the call to be the first pope and Andrew continued his behind the scenes ministry. He and Simon Peter were some of the first that Jesus sought out to be the builders of His “Church”. And Jesus rightly told these brothers, who were fishermen, that they would be fishing for something better than fish, and they both got it. It’s interesting that Andrew, who like his brother was born in Galilee but was named after Greek relatives. This later in Andrew’s life had much significance in his ministry. After Jesus died, Andrew was an evangelist all over the world. He was filled with the “good news” of the Lord and wanted to spread that news all over. He became the patron saint of so many countries because of his preaching there. So he is honored in Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Scotland and other European countries.
Golfers like me know he is remembered in Scotland with a town and golf course named after him. So honor and pay tribute to the Other Brother. Tomorrow would be a good day to remember so many people who don’t get the notoriety but make a big difference in the lives of so many people!
