Spiritual Reflection

Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection – 02/08/2016

Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection – 02/08/2016

“Let us pray for each other during this season of Lent.”

Now that Superbowl 50 is in the record books you probably picked your favorite commercial… This year a 30 second commercial cost 5 million dollars.  I thought I would give you a free commercial.

Wednesday is Ash Wednesday…. an invitation to spend some time, spiritual time in a season called Lent to prepare for the great Feast of Easter.  God gives us Lent because Easter proves that God is filled with Love and Mercy for us. How appropriate since Pope Francis designated this year as a Jubilee Year of Mercy.

How special will this Lent be for you? I offer this reflection… It seems to me that there is too much negativity… too much sadness… too much worry…. too much doom and gloom.

Of all God’s creations, I’m glad He created laughter.  The great pianist and comedian, Victor Borge said that “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”

Perhaps, Lent should be a time of great joy since we know that it doesn’t end with Good Friday but with Easter.

Lent can be a wonderful time, because we do plan to do something special to remind us how great God is and for the gift of His Son who died to set us free.

I am sure that you will plan to make your Lenten season a holy one.  Whatever you do, remember God’s mercy brings us joy not sorrow. I read this recently…. “God sets His rainbow in the sky to remind us that His promises never fail and that His love never ends.”

Let us pray for each other during this season of Lent.  Many people are blessed because of you and all that you do for others.

I will close with this quote from Margaret Lee Runbeck, “A man leaves all kinds of footprints when he walks through life. Some you can see, others are invisible like the prints he leaves across other people’s lives.”
