DON’T BE AFRAID
Today we celebrate the feast of the archangels, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. The word angel means messenger and we salute God’s messengers for always bringing God’s message to us.
We look for protection, for guidance, for comfort and for the assurance that God is with us. The angels have always been these instruments in God’s hands. While we don’t know that much about them except what we can glean from the Scriptures, we believe in the power of God who uses the angels to remind us that we are God’s children.
The one message that is so striking in the scriptures is what the angel Gabriel told Mary when she was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus. That message is for us as well as it was for Mary. It was “DON’T BE AFRAID.” In times of doubt, in times of suffering and sadness, it rings out in a loud but comforting manner, God is with you, don’t be afraid.
We take this time to thank you for being an “angel”, an angel of mercy. You proclaim God’s word by your life and your faith. With YOUR love, spirit and faith, we won’t be afraid.
