Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection-8/30/2023
The Almighty has done great things for me
When Mary was asked to be the mother of Jesus, her answer reflected in the famous prayer of the Magnificat has the above line. I chose this picture of the prayer garden in Pueblo, CO because I believe that Mary could say this is one of the great things God has done for her. I know it has been one of the best things God has done for me and probably the most significant thing I have been involved with in my fifty plus years as a priest.
We celebrate great feasts in August, September and October honoring Our Blessed Mother. August 15 the Assumption of Mary, August 22 the Queenship of Mary, September 8 her birthday and then on September 12 the holy name of Mary. These remind us of how important she was in the Redemption of the world. Not only for the relationship with her Son, but because she was the greatest Christian who ever lived. In October, we will celebrate the feast of the Holy Rosary. Thank God for that. How often I say that when in trouble with bad weather trying to get to a mission. How often at the loss of a loved one, this prayer is recited. But I think her greatness was because she was a MOTHER. Her love, faith, hope and courage can never be matched. She is blessed and so are we because of her.
