Every once in a while, we are scheduled to conduct a parish mission in a small rural community. So last week I was in a little town about 40 miles west of Des Moines, Iowa named Stuart. It is so different from the larger parishes that we have been in during the last 6 weeks. I truly love the small town feel…people knowing everyone and interested in them. People stay after mass to “catch up on things.” The interesting thing for me was the actual name of the church…All Saints on All Saints Blvd. There is a ring of honor around the inside of the church with an extensive listing of the names of saints. (I found St. Vincent DePaul-upper left in pic.) I thought the idea of listing them made it a distraction that I really liked. To be reminded of the love so many great people had for God and the Church made it easy to pray and celebrate the Eucharist.
The scripture for today reminds us of how God needs to get more credit for so many things. Jesus made it clear that it was His Father who made things happen. The saints always gave credit to God for their life and works. Just a great thing to remember!
